ENGLAND v REST OF THE WORLD 1963 - WEMBLEY INTERNATIONAL for 100 years of the F.A.

On the 23rd October 1963, Wembley Stadium played host to an exhibition match with the world's greatest players to celebrate 100 years of the Football Association.

In a dull first half, Armfield shows his world class by completely outplaying the great Pablo Gento. Law plays a central midfield role opposing his club-mate Bobby Charlton and there is some great goalkeeping from Yashin and Soskic.

The second half is much livelier when the World side call on Puskas and Eyzaguirre. After Puskas supplies Law with a sublime defence-splitting pass, the tempo increases. The team work of the England side (3 years away from taking the World Cup) begins to show with some excellent attacking football

as they squeeze out a win thanks to the sharpness of Paine and Greaves.

Both sides used a 4-2-4 system, and the Rest Of The World side was allowed to use 16 players (from 8 countries).
